WHAT IS STANDARDS-BASED GRADING?

Standards-Based Grading (SBG) is a software feature key that can be preloaded or activated on select DataMan fixed-mount barcode readers and In-Sight Vision systems to grade the quality of 1D and 2D barcodes. SBG uses the same verification grading algorithms, calibration process, and software user interface as DataMan verifiers but does not include the fixed angle lighting required in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) guidelines. SBG is ideal to use when existing barcode quality software, such as process control metrics (PCM), is not reliable enough, and ISO compliance is not required or possible.

Standards based grading is the closest way to achieve verification results without having to conform to specific lighting angles, distances, or every ISO standard parameter.

In practice, the setup needs to be as close as possible to a real verifier – lighting configuration in particular. The measurements are calculated the same way as with a verifier, so the closer the setup is to a true verifier, the closer the results are to true verification. With the same lighting setup, the measurements between standards-based grading and verification converge.

FIELD UPGRADEABLE KEY ACTIVATION STEPS: 

• Licenses are device specific; the serial number must be entered at the time of the order.
• Once the order is placed, the customer will receive an email from Cognex with the Field Upgrade License.
• Save the attached Field Upgrade License(s) to your desktop or to any preferred directory on your PC.
• Start In-Sight™ Explorer and connect your In-Sight™ Vision System. 
• You must be using In-Sight™ Software 6.3.X (where X is 1, 2, 3…). The license will not be recognized by other versions of the software.
• Navigate to the directory on your PC where you saved the Field Upgrade License(s).
• Drag and drop the corresponding license file from your PC directory into the “In-Sight Files” pane of In-Sight™ Explorer, found in View -> In-Sight Files.
• Ensure the license file is dropped into the top-level directory of the appropriate device. The license file will need to be present on the device to unlock any features.
• If upgrading multiple devices, Repeat steps 2 through 4 for each device with the corresponding license file.
• Your In-Sight™ Vision System will now have the feature(s) enabled by the Field Upgrade License. Be aware that resetting the reader to factory defaults will not remove the new feature(s), as long as the file remains in the file system of the In-Sight™ Vision System. ‘TruCheckIDVerification’ spreadsheet tool
