Rockwell Automation meets all process safety requirements, focusing on quality system components and scalable options including failsafe, fault-tolerant, and triple modular redundancy.
But… let’s take a step back. Which are the security requirements that companies must comply with? And what security solutions can be implemented in internal processes?
In order to determine if your existing systems are acceptable, you need to identify all safety instrumented functions, and then determine what level of performance they need to meet. At this point you can choose the security solution that is right for you.
Companies are often required to comply with multiple SIL levels (Safety Integrity Levels), from level 1 to level 3, in the same control activity. Rockwell Automation proposes a tool to satisfy this request: AADvance®, a scalable fault-tolerant control system which allows you to apply different levels of module redundancy. The system features CIP connectivity to PlantPAx® and it has a simple single point configuration and system management.
To virtually eliminate spurious system trips and provides high availability as part of its inherent safety-related functionality, Rockwell Automation designed Trusted®, the triple modular redundant (TMR) controller. The architecture of this tool is based on a circumscribed control of the origin of the hardware failure. Random hardware failures will cause one of three control ‘slices’ to react differently to the others, allowing the Trusted system to react immediately to limit the fault respecting the integrity requirements.
On the other hand to meet the requirements imposed by increasingly stringent standards, it is also necessary to use SIL 2 certified products, such as the ControlLogix®. It uses the same hardware as Basic Process Control System (BPCS), extends the fault tolerance down to the I/O level and the configurable software makes the system easier to use.
If you want to improve your industrial safety skills, you can listen to Rockwell Automation technicians tomorrow at the “TechDay Event” (Alba- Italy). This event has been realized thanks to the collaboration between the BSA team and AproTech, a division of Apro Formazione (Alba – CN). It will give you the opportunity to meet Rockwell Automation technicians and other important partners!
